The Lone Conservative Weekly: November 21, 2021
Rittenhouse, a withered leaf, women's tennis, and living with Democrats.
Dear reader,
We hope you are enjoying your weekend.
“President Biden is to his party what a withered leaf is to a hurricane. And as the gusts of the most vocal minority in the Democratic party continue to blow to the left, the White House agenda does as well.” For more on the wifty, Withered Leaf in Chief and how his ever-capricious agenda is being commandeered by the most radical members in the Democratic party, read Lone Conservative Contributor Justin Rodriguez’s article “The Gigantic Implications of Biden’s Agena.”
In a time where many corporations and organizations are unwilling to cross the CCP, it is nice to see Steve Simon and the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) take a stand for Peng Shuai. Shuai, a top women’s tennis athlete who is a two-time Grand Slam doubles champion has “disappeared” after accusing a former Chinese Vice Premier of sexual assault on November 2nd. Although standing up to China could cost the WTA almost one-third of its revenue, Simon and many professional tennis players have called for her freedom. One can only hope that other organizations like the NBA will one day grow a spine and follow suit in standing up to China and its frequent human rights abuse.
On Friday, Kyle Rittenhouse was acquitted on multiple murder charges connected to the now-famous unrest in Kenosha last August. Rittenhouse’s trial was covered extensively by the national media, which predictably painted Rittenhouse as a bigoted terrorist. If you’ve opened Twitter or Instagram in the last two days then you’re probably well aware of the degree to which progressives are misinformed about the facts of the case. Should you attempt to explain the reality to your lefty friends, consider starting with Bari Weiss’ piece about the case. Weiss rebuts the inaccuracies cooked up by media figures and progressive politicians about the trial while denouncing the mainstream news’ unwillingness to address left-wing fabrications.
You may remember a few weeks ago our editing team wrote an article against the idea of a national divorce. Since then, the idea has remained in discussion among some on the left and the right alike. This week, our very own Jack Shields published his first column for Lone Conservative on the same topic. Shields explains why he feels that “I want to live in a country with Democrats. Not because I agree with them, but because I disagree.”
This very month, Republicans made massive and surprising electoral gains, including Glenn Youngkin’s gubernatorial victory in Virginia and Edward Durr’s victory over New Jersey Senate President Steve Sweeney, a victory that Durr only spent $153 to attain. As they were busy reeling from those electoral defeats, some of us prayed the Democrats would engage in some badly needed introspection. Instead, they have resolved to double down on their radicalism. Former Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe had said during his failed campaign, “I don’t think parents should be telling schools what they teach.” This week, Christina Wyman writing for NBC News declared that it’s just as foolish for parents to think they have a say in their children’s education as “entering a surgical unit thinking you can interfere with an operation because the patient is your child.” It remains unknown if Wyman is aware that parents do in fact have control over the medical operations performed on their child.
